Can I have breakfast before sample collection for DNA testing?
Yes, you can have breakfast but the time interval between the last meal and the time of sampling must be observed. The time interval should be at least 30 minutes. Breastfed children are an exception. For them, the mandatory time between the last breastfeeding and the time of sampling is 30 minutes, ideally - 1 hour or more. This is because breast milk contains the DNA of the mother. The time interval is needed so that the oropharyngeal swab of the child (for young children this type of sampling is most frequent for DNA tests) does not contain DNA of other persons (mother).
